Azerbaijani captain's ship wrecked near Antalya

Zelek Star, Moldovan-registered cargo ship steered by a captain of Azerbaijani national wrecked near the Antalya’s coast of Turkey.
The ship ran into a gale while approaching the coast.

The crew asked coast guard to help them to reach land, but it was impossible to approach the ship from the ground because of 5-meter waves.

The coast guard sent a helicopter to help the Zelek Star.

Nine of 13 crew members were taken to the ground, but Azerbaijani captain and three Georgian crew members didn’t leave the ship.

According to the international maritime law, the captain decided to stay with three others to protect the ship form the status of “abandoned”.
