Orthodox Christians of Azerbaijan mark Christmas

Orthodox Christians of world mark blest birth of Prophet Jesus.
The Christmas is one of the most important holidays for believers who consider the blest birth of the Savior as day of origin of the religion. The new era begins just from this day.

As well as all over the world, the Orthodox Christian community of Azerbaijan celebrates every year the holiday of Christmas which is a symbol of renewal, tranquility, mercy and compassion. In connection with this holiday, on this night the community representatives will go to Orthodox churches in Azerbaijan to hold traditional devotions.

President of the Azerbaijan Republic Ilham Aliyev has congratulated the Christian community of Azerbaijan on the Christmas holiday. In congratulatory message, it is underlined that, co-existing for centuries in Azerbaijan in the conditions of peace and mutual understanding, world religions have played invaluable role in establishment of peace, friendship and brotherhood relations here, and that “today our citizens of Christian faith, including Orthodox communities, are integral part of the society and take active part in the political life of the country”.

Based on mutual respect and honor among the peoples and religions, the tolerance atmosphere in the present Azerbaijan society, built on progressive historical and cultural values, the existing national-spiritual solidarity have fairly glorified in the world as a sample of tolerance.
