Azerbaijani ombudsman appeals Prosecutor General to ensure fair investigation into journalist's case

Azerbaijani Human Rights Commissioner Elmira Suleymanova visited Baku detention facility, press service of the commissioner’s office said.
Suleymanova met with a group of defendants, as well as journalist Eynulla Fatullayev.

Fatullayev did not complain of the detention conditions.

Fatullayev said narcotic drugs were found in his shoe and jacket in jail No. 12 on December 29, 2009, but it did not belong to him, noting that it was a conspiracy against him and attributed it to consideration of his case in the European Court of Human Rights.

Fatullayev said blood samples had been taken from him on Dec. 30, but the results of the analysis were not known.

Fatullayev said he was held in hard conditions in the punishment cell of the jail No. 12 after narcotics were found on him.

Human Rights Commissioner appealed to Prosecutor General to ensure complete, unbiased and thorough investigation of the case.

Following this, Suleymanova met with arrested bloggers Adnan Hajizadeh and Emin Milli.

They did not complain of the detention conditions, said the Appeals Court was considering the decision of Sabail district court, the hearing had been delayed because of the absence of the sufferers.
