ICRC appeals to relevant Armenian bodies to visit Azerbaijani hostage

The Armenian representation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has already been informed about resident of Alibayli village of Tovuz region Tagiyev Eldar Heydar taken hostage by Armenian servicemen on Dec. 28, 2009, spokesperson for Azerbaijani representation of ICRC Gulnaz Guliyeva said.

She said that Tagiyev had not been visited yet.

The committee’s Armenian representation has already appealed to the appropriate bodies of Armenia to visit the hostage and monitor his detention conditions.

Guliyeva said ICRC Azerbaijani representation had not been informed about the Armenian Yegishe Petrosovich Gevorkyan and his family, who crossed the Azerbaijani border on Jan. 10, therefore they had not been visited yet.

Armenian Defense Ministry has officially confirmed that Azerbaijani Eldar Tagiyev had been taken hostage on Dec. 28.

According to Armenian Defense Ministry’s press service, the Azerbaijani was detained when attempted to illegally cross the border.

“The international organizations have been informed about it. Criminal case has been launched, investigation is underway.”
