Azerbaijani parliament set to impose smoking bans

14 January 2010 [18:14] - TODAY.AZ
The Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani parliament) commission on social policy has prepared a bill “On smoking restriction”.
The new bill will be reportedly passed by the Azeri parliament (Milli Majlis) at its upcoming spring session.

According to Musa Guliyev, Deputy Chairman of the Milli Majlis Committee on social policy, “the main rationale for smoking restrictions is creation of the non-smoking environment rather than segregation of smokers. Smoking will be prohibited in enclosed public spaces”.

After the bill takes effect, those who disregard smoking ban on public transportation, including airports, railway and seaports, bus stations, and taxi-cabs, will receive respective punishment.

Also smoking bans will be imposed in workplaces and food service areas, with an exception of special places for smokers.
