Azerbaijan's Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov has met the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Thomas Hammarberg.
The two exchanged a wide range of issues, including Azerbaijan-COE cooperation, legal reforms in the country, human rights, democracy and rule of law.
The Prosecutor General said the decree of the Azerbaijani President on National Action Plan for protection of human rights dated December, 2006, made “great” contribution to strengthening democracy in the country.
Garalov praised cooperation between the Council of Europe and Azerbaijan, noting his country was actively involved in the European integration process.
Hammarberg praised current level of relationship between Azerbaijan and his organization, saying the Council of Europe was keen to further deepen the cooperation.
Special Representative of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe in Azerbaijan Veronika Kotek was present at the meeting.
