Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs: Azerbaijani girls are not prepared for marriage until 18

08 March 2010 [14:30] - TODAY.AZ
The Azerbaijani Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs has pointed out necessity to attract young girls’ attention to education.
Chairman of the Committee Hijran Huseynova said that it is necessary to raise marriage age to 18 years.

“It is requirement of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. It is natural process. We come to it some day or other. Now  our objective is  to strengthen activity among young girls concerning  their education and its  continuation.

Then necessity of early marriage will merely disappear. We carried out serious research together with the international organizations which showed they are not ready for getting married as regards state of health and psychological structuring. There are many factors which prove about the same information.

Even one year is of large significance. Foremost, in an elementary way, girls finish school. If the number of early marriages grows, we risk face problems connected with education from now onwards,”  H. Huseynova said.
