Many European countries celebrate Grandparents' Day.
In France, it is the first Sunday in March, in Italy - the first Sunday in October, in Estonia - the second Sunday of September.
Poland celebrates Grandmothers' Day (January 21) and Drandfathers' Day (January 22) separately.
In Turkey, this date has got bigger format.
Since 2008, the country has celerated Feb. 8 as Grandparents' International Day.
The initiative was backed by UNESCO and the European Union.
On this day, regardless of age, each citizen having grandparents visits them.
The head of the public association "Care of Azerbaijani elder scientists" Nasrulla Nurullayev said, according to the mentality of the Azerbaijani people, the younger generation feels obliged to care of elder people.
Instituting the Grandparents' Day can serve as another proof of this.
He said that Azerbaijan, as well as the whole world, celebrate October 1 as the International Day of Elder People.
But the creation of a separate day dedicated to grandparents will increase younger generation's attention to problems of elder people, he added.
