Conference on 1918 Azerbaijani genocide to be hosted in Sweden

02 April 2010 [08:45] - TODAY.AZ
The World Azerbaijanis Congress (WAC) will hold an event in Stockholm, on April 9, to inform the international community about the genocide committed by Armenians in March 1918 in Azerbaijan.

"WAC Permanent Council Chairman Ajdar Tagizade, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Sweden Rafael Ibrahimov, Azerbaijani MP Baba Tagiyev and diaspora organization representatives in Sweden will attend the conference," WAC Co-Chair, MP Sabir Rustamkhanli said.

Armenians massacred Azerbaijanis in southern Azerbaijan in February and March 1918. Over 130,000 Azerbaijanis were killed in massacres in the Urmiya, Tabriz, Khoy, Kohnasheher and Salmas regions. A total of 1,500 Turks were killed in one night in Urmiya, Rustamkhanli said.

The WAC delegation plans to visit Canada April 18. They will hold meetings with the Canadian parliament and state agencies.

"We plan to meet leaders of Azerbaijani diaspora organizations in Ottawa, Ontario, Vancouver, Turkey and other Turkic states," the WAC co-chair.

The delegation will later head to the United States and Canada.

An event will be held in Los Angeles dedicated to Azerbaijan, Rustamkhanli said.

"We will take part in the annual 'Turkish March' in New York together with Turkic diaspora organizations," the MP added.
