One of Azerbaijani regions has been renamed

Davachi region of Azerbaijan has been renamed. From now on it will be called Shabran. The issue was discussed in today’s sitting of the parliament.

Chairman of the parliament’s regional committee Arif Rahimzadeh gave information about the document. According to him, the renaming of Davachi had been discussed both in the parliament’s committee and on the local level.

Rahimzadeh said Shabran was one of the ancient cities of Azerbaijan dating back to the 5th century. Shabran was called Sabiran, Shebiran at different times.

Following the discussions, the document was put to the vote. It was decided to preserve the name Davachi and call certain area in the center of the region as Davachi.
