Baku hosts conference to mark anniversary of Victory in Great Patriotic War

Scientific-practical conference on "Truth and fiction about the Great Patriotic War" dedicated to 65-year anniversary of the Victory in Great Patriotic War was held at the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (ANAS) on April 8.

The conference was opened by ANAS President Mahmud Karimov, who noted that, as for all peace-loving peoples on the Earth, Victory Day of May 9 is significant day for Azerbaijan, too.

He pointed out the Baku oil accounted for 85-95% of oil produced in the USSR during the war. ANAS President added, that 43 Azerbaijanis who fought in the WWII were heroes of the Soviet Union.

Karimov spoke about contribution of scientists to the victory over the fascists. So, high-octane aviation gasoline invented by the Azerbaijani scientist Yusif Mammadaliyeva made victory over the enemy much closer.

A new therapeutic technique by a prominent Azerbaijani surgeon Mustafa Topchibashov helped to save hundreds of military life.
