The document was signed by Azeri minister of culture and tourism Abulfaz Garayev and Mauritanian foreign minister Mrs.
Naha Mint Hamdi Ould Mouknass.
Speaking to the signing ceremony, Garayev said the document was “very important” and “creates new opportunities for bilateral cooperation”.
Garayev said the two countries enjoy “close” cooperation within international organizations, in particular the Organization of the Islamic Conference and ISESCO.
He stressed the importance of holding Mauritanian culture days in Azerbaijan, expressing confidence “it will contribute to bringing our peoples closer to each other”.
“We can also organize the days of Azeri culture in Mauritania in order to promote our rich culture there.”
Garayev touched upon Armenia`s military aggression against Azerbaijan.
“Armenians demolished a large number of historical and cultural monuments on the Azerbaijani territories they have been holding under occupation.”
“And demolition of the cultural monuments in Azerbaijan`s occupied territories is the problem not only of Azerbaijan, but also the whole Islamic world, because these monuments are part of Islamic culture”.
Naha Mint Hamdi Ould Mouknass stressed the necessity of strengthening bilateral cooperation in preserving Islamic values.
She said Mauritania was keen to build “close and overall” cooperation with Azerbaijan.
