The Azerbaijani State Customs Committee's earnings for the first quarter decreased by 167 million manat for the first quarter compared to the same period of 2009, the Customs Committee head Aydin Aliyev said.
"Reduction of customs revenues to the state budget is connected with the problems with tax collection," Aliyev said.
Aliyev said that reduction of revenues to the state budget is explained by the decline of import to the country in connection with the increase in domestic production, and other reasons.
As a result of activity in 2009, the total trade turnover amounted to $20.81 billion. Export operations of the country, reduced by 69.22% or $33.05 billion and amounted to $14.69 billion in 2008. Import reduced by 14.64% or $1.04 billion, reaching $6.11 billion.
During January-February foreign trade operations were carried out to the amount of $3,9 billion. Export operations of the country to the same period in 2009 increased by 15.54 percent or more than $1.72 billion, hitting more than $3,2 billion. During January-February, import reduced by 23.84% or $220.2 million, reaching $0.704 billion.
