19 April 2010 [14:25] - TODAY.AZ
The Icelandic volcanic ash is hardly to spread in Azerbaijan in the coming days, said Umayra Tagiyeva, Azerbaijani Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry's National Hydrometeorological Department's hydrometeorological forecasts office head.

Tagiyeva said the southwest airflow over Turkey prevents the penetration of volcanic ash to the country, so probability of occurrence of ash clouds in Azerbaijan is too low in the next 3-4 days.

"This process depends on the duration of the volcanic eruption and direction of air currents in the atmosphere. If the situation changed, people will be informed in advance," she added.

Eyyafyatlayokudl volcano, which is located 200 kilometers east of Reykjavik, began ton erupt April 14. This led to the formation of a large cloud of ash, particles of which are dangerous for turbine engines and can cause problems for airplanes. European Aviation Safety Service decided to close the airspace over many areas.
