Culture television channel may be opened in Azerbaijan

21 April 2010 [12:24] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan is considering opening of the channel Culture, the Azerbaijani National Television and Radio Council Chairman said.
"We consider opening of a separate Culture TV channel. This involves emergence of new challenges on the advertising marketplace. However, if private TV channels worked the way they should, we would not have thinked over the opening of the Culture channel ," the Azerbaijani National Television and Radio Council Chairman Nushiravan Maharramli said at a scientific-theoretical conference on 'E-Media: government regulation and public scrutiny'.

He said that the need to create a new resource on television is stipulated by fair public concern on the channels.

"We think that creation of the channel Culture is a way out of the situation. We can not interfere in the creative processes on TV. But we have the opportunity to take more extensive measures, including the creation of the channel Culture, which will operate within specified limits," Maharramli said.

There are 8 local, 14 regional channels, and 13 radio channels in Azerbaijan.
