World Religious Leaders' Summit to serve as a stimulus for interconfessional relations for benefit of mankind

The Baku World Religious Leaders' Summit will give a new stimulus for the development of interconfessional and intercultural relations in the common interest of mankind and elimination of global challenges - terrorism, religious fanaticism, extremism and separatism, and will be a historically significant event, Caucasus Muslims Organization (CMO) head and CIS Interreligious Council co-chair Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade said at the summit.

"Violation of human rights and spread of narcotics and other psychotropic drugs, as well as control over space, nuclear terrorism and use of weapons of mass destruction are very serious concerns to us all, Pashazade said."We, the religious leaders, approve superpowers' steps towards nuclear disarmament, and we believe if religious leaders do not use their influence today, the scientists - practical knowledge and the heads of state - a progressive cooperation, tomorrow they will have to answer before history and humanity."

He expressed concern about terrorist acts committed in different parts of the world.

"None of the religions sent by the God justify terror, violence and aggression. Those who use religious slogans to kill innocent civilians and commit terrorist and vandalic acts are making great sins before the face of our Creator. Do not forget that the world's religions assess encroachment human life as aggression against all humanity," Pashazade said.

Pashazade called on religious leaders to take a unified stand against the extremist, radical and separatist forces opposed to the territorial integrity and security of states.

"20% of Azerbaijani territory has been under occupation for more than 20 years. We make every effort to resolve the military conflict with Armenia peacefully. I believe today the problem of Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as all the conflicts of the Caucasus region, can be resolved through a just peace within the territorial integrity and understanding in accordance with the principles of the international law," Pashazade said.

The Baku World Religious Leaders' Summit is being attended by 250 representatives of various confessions from 35 countries worldwide.
