Azerbaijan launched the 44-th International Chemistry Olympiad called Mendeleev among schoolchildren.
"This contest is held in Azerbaijan for the second time (first time was 10 years ago). About 87 students from 14 countries participate in it," Azerbaijani Education Minister Misir Mardanov told the media.
The pilot round of the Olympiad, to be finished May 3, will be held at the Baku State University.
Minister said, that "since Azerbaijan is a country of petrochemicals, our students can take higher places". Azerbaijani students have won this very Olympiad numerous times, and continued education in Moscow State University, without competition.
Minister of Education noted that the legislation of Azerbaijan does not take into account the admission of the winners of the competitions in high schools without competition.
