“Every religious temple can be built on Azerbaijan’s territory only through permission of Azerbaijani Government”, Bishop Alexander of Baku and Caspian region said commenting on construction of Church in honor of Saint Mary in Khankandi city in occupied Azerbaijani lands.
“Nagorno-Karabakh is the territory of Azerbaijan. Each temple – either Orthodox, or Catholic, or Moslem mosque etc, can be built only by the permission of Azerbaijani Government. But the groundwork of orthodox church in Khankandi has been laid without any permission. Some kind of community may be living there, but a permission for construction is still required”, he said.
Bishop Alexander of Baku and Caspian region appealed to Moscow Orthodox Church and protested against the launch of construction of a church in Khankandi, without the permission of Azerbaijan. After that protest Interfax-Religia has renewed its information. It was noted in the updated document, that member of the secretary for interchristian relations of the Moscow Patriarchate Department for External Church Relations Priest Alexander Vasyutin attended the groundbreaking ceremony.
it was earlier reported that Bishop Alexander of Baku and Caspian region attended groundbreaking ceremony held in Khankandi. Reportedly, after the ceremony he thanked Nagorno-Karabakh regime for making decision connected with the construction of a church for Russian community. But Bishop Alexander said, that all information about his visit to Khankendi and participation in the ceremony is a lie. “I have never been to Nagorno karabakh”, he said.
He said nobody from the Baku and Caspian Bishopric attended that event. Bishop said that entire Azerbaijan and Dagestan enter the Baku and Caspian Bishopric. “As Nagorno Karabakh is known as an inseparable part of Azerbaijan by the international community, this territory also enters the Bishopric. When Azerbaijan restores its control in Nagorno Karabakh, Bishopric will function there too”, he added.
