Seminar on utilization of marginal quality water in agriculture held in Baku

A seminar on “Utilization of Marginal Quality Water in Agriculture: Potential and Constraints was held in Baku as part of the 5th IDB Global Forum on Islamic Finance on June 21.
Opening the event, Vice President of the Islamic Development Bank Birama Sidibe spoke of the agricultural projects that IDB had carried out. He noted the Bank puts special emphasis on projects regarding protection of water sources, adding the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) was established for this purpose.

He underlined the mission of the Center was to develop and promote the use of sustainable agricultural systems that use saline water to grow crops. Sidibe also thanked the Azerbaijani government for the cooperation with IDB on implementation of relevant projects.

Attending the event, director general of Azerbaijan`s Agrarian Science Center Asad Musayev said necessary measures must be taken in country's saline lands. He also noted ICBA plans to carry out projects to increase agricultural productivity in Azerbaijan. Musayev pointed out Azerbaijan had established close relationship with the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas.
