A total of 55 tourist sites out of 452 are four are three or four-star facilities in Azerbaijan.

The quality of service in tourist sites worsens in some regions of the country just a few years after they open. It was noted during debates on “Can the tourism season be considered open” organized at the Azerbaijan Media Center in Baku. Key speakers at the debate was Azerbaijan Culture and Tourism Ministry official responsible for domestic tourism Mahir Gahramanov and Deputy Chairman of the Public Association Center for Social and Economic Research Natig Huseynov.
The ministry officials said the ministry has monitored tourism facilities across the country to check their readiness for a new season. The monitoring has revealed shortcomings in service of facilities in the northern regions because of this reduced level of stars. Gahramanov stressed that the prices vary from 8-10 to 130 manat per day, so each Azerbaijani have an opportunity to rest in accordance their income. The level of service will improve in case of robust competition, he added.
Representative of the Center for Social and Economic Research said the level of service in regions of the country is very low and does not meet real prices. The organization made such conclusion based on monitoring conducted in five regions of the country. Most hotels lack basic service of distribution of baggage, not to mention internet service and car rental. As a result of the monitoring, the organization came to the conclusion that for the same money you pay to rest just 5-6 days in Azerbaijan, you can pay the same, and spend a vacation in Turkey for 11-12 days in hotels with excellent service.
The debates were organized by Azerbaijan Media Center and “Yeni Nesil” journalists’ union as part of “Culture of Debates in Azerbaijan” program. The project is realized through financial assistance of the U.S. embassy in Azerbaijan.
