Survey reveals the number of single women in Azerbaijan

So, there are 1.512 million single women in Azerbaijan. Director of the Woman Crisis Center Matanat Azizova explained the reasons for current trend in a country which has always been noted for early marriages. She said the first reason is that the number of women much more than the number of men. Secondly, many representatives of the stronger sex leave country for work in other countries.

"Women have to choose a small number of remaining men, among whom there are great number of drug and alcohol addicts. On the other hand, many young women also do not hurry to get married due to career promotion,” she added.

The state program that would offer housing for newly-wed couples, benefits for children, large number of new jobs and career promotion opportunities would offer the best way out of the current situation, Azizova noted. It should be noted, that the women outnumber men in Azerbaijan by 60,000.
