In Shamkir city of Azerbaijan (400 km west of Baku), the excavations of an ancient city are being carried out for the 3rd strainght year. Major work will begin in July, according to the Head of Department of Institute of Archaeology and Etnography of ANAS, doctor of historical sciences Tarih Dostiyev.
In early July, itis also scheduled to present the results of last year's excavations to the general public, and also to demonstrate actual artifacts, that were found during the excavations.
The found artifacts are proof, that ancient Shamkir had a very active commercial life. During the excavation, the eastern wall of the city has been cleared, and , one of the foundations of the fortress (14 metres hight) was found.
