01 July 2010 [11:58] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijani scientist Rashid Aliyev, who earlier was arrested in Iran, has fallen ill, Azerbaijani Scientist Rights Protection Committee Chairman Soltanhamid Malikov said. Malikov said Iran has not yet provided the Azerbaijani authorities with information about the charges against Aliyev.

Aliyev was employed by the Iranian company Sazan Elestronics Industry in the framework of a cooperation agreement with Baku State University. He worked with the company from 2006 to 2008. the company management repeatedly asked the scientist to move to Iran permanently, but Aliyev refused. After several requests by Director Abbas Eftekhari, Aliyev traveled back to Iran where he was then arrested due to "visa problems."

Malikov said Azerbaijan has appealed to Iran for information, but has yet to receive a response. He added that an Iranian court sentenced Aliyev in absentia to three years in prison.
