UN ready to support biodiversity conservation in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, UNEP representative Yvonne Iguero told journalists today.
"UN implements a program "Environmental Safety Initiative" aimed to conserve biodiversity in the conflict zones. The structure has already held discussions on the implementation of relevant activities in the Caucasus region upon this initiative," Iguero said.

Iguero said "Environmental Safety Initiative" was launched after the Balkan conflict as a result of which works to protect the fauna and flora carried put on the border areas of conflict.

Gabala is hosting an environmental conference organized by the Azerbaijani government and the UNEP. The event is held in the run-up to the next session of the U.N. General Assembly on Biological Diversity in New York in September.
