Azerbaijani Ombudsman's Office staff attend parliamentary elections training

The Azerbaijani Ombudsman's Office will attend training sessions to prepare for the upcoming parliamentary elections. The training was initiated by Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova pursuant to an agreement with the Central Election Commission (CEC).

The event aims to inform staff about electoral rights. Suleymanova stressed that the elections are vital, and must be democratic and transparent. Citizens will also be educated as to their voting rights in the run-up to the elections, she said.

According to Suleymanova, the Ombudsman's Office has already started educating district police officers. The Interior Ministry were also told that interference in the elections is unacceptable.

It was noted that the Ombudsman's Office and the CEC have built a fruitful cooperation.

Parliamentary elections will be held in Azerbaijan Nov. 7, 2010. Previous elections were held in November 2005. The elections are held according to the majority system in 125 constituencies across the country.
