Speed of passenger trains in Azerbaijan will reach 100 km/h

Technical work to develop railway transport in Azerbaijan as part of the “State program on development of the railway system in Azerbaijan in 2010-2014” will be over by the end of the year.

Baku-Boyukkesik railway line will be renovated at the first stage, Azerbaijan Railways Deputy Director Gurban Nazirov said. Thus, speed of passenger trains on the TRACECA corridor in Azerbaijan will reach 100 km/h, and speed of trade trains will reach 80 km/h, he said.

“A total of 14 billion manat will be spent till 2014. As much as 450 million manat will be issued by the World Bank, 213 million manat by the Czech Bank and 344 million manat will be allocated by the Azerbaijani government. New energy system will be applied on Baku-Boyukkesik route at the first stage,” Nazirov added.
