Azerbaijani carpets were recognized as a national heritage of Iran at a ceremony held in the Petrochemical Palace of Tabriz, IRNA reported.

The Persian rugs are among the most famous in the world, Iran's Vice Presidential, Tourism and Protection of Cultural Monuments Department Chairman and Free Economic Zones Center Chairman, Hamid Baghai, said.
Baghai said the next week old Tabriz Bazaar will be included in the UNESCO list of World Cultural Heritage.
During the rule of Hulagu Khan (1217-1265), Tabriz was the center of production and sale of carpets.
