Heavy rainfall and strong winds have caused a great damage to Azerbaijan's north-western Sheki region, Sheki Region Emergency Situations Commission Chairman Valeh Alakbarov said.
The mountainous Gurjana River overflew its banks due to rainfall in the region last night.
Torrents of water swept away several cars, electricity and gas supply lines broke down, great part of the roads was destroyed and strong winds uprooted trees.
Alakbarov said torrential rains have caused damage to several mountain villages. The size of damage by the natural calamity will be determined only after Sheki city and several villages are fully inspected.
Sheki Emergency Situations Commission and city residents are working to eliminate problems caused by the natural disaster.
