Media reports: Part of lands in Dedoplistskaro can become Azerbaijan's

19 July 2010 [16:30] - TODAY.AZ
Kakliskure nature monument in the Dedoplistskaro region (region of Kakheti, eastern Georgia) is on the verge of catastrophe. The Alazani River can change the bed and cause 180 hectares land to become Azerbaijan's territories, the Georgian newspaper Rezonansi (Resonance) reported today.

The peninsula is linked with the mainland via 6-7-meter band. It washes the Alazani River.

Alazani is a trans-boundary river, so the demarcation of the border at this point requires a special approach. If the river washes away the isthmus, the 180 hectares will be in Azerbaijan.

According to the chief specialist of Georgia's Environmental Protection Agency's Shore Protection Department Rusudan Sturua, studies have been conducted, however, Kakliskure has not been included in the list of the 15 sites, where shore protection works should be conducted in 2010.
