Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry issues statement on forest fires in Azerbaijan

Press service of Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry told APA that there was a fire outbreak on the 40th km of Elet-Hajigabul highway at 21.50 on July 25. Unextinguished cigarette thrown from the car caused the fire. The fire covered 30 ha area, including 1.2 ha area of the forest planted by the employees of the Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry under the instructions of President.

The fire was extinguished as a result of the efforts of the local bodies of the Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry, Hajigabul executive power, Hajigabul fire-fighting unit of the Ministry of Emergency Situations. The trees did not suffer any serious damages.

Another fire occurred in Gusar region. Fire occurred in the land fund owned by Lejet municipality of Gusar region at 13.00 on July 26. The fire was extinguished by the local bodies of the Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry and Gusar fire-fighting unit of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

Unextinguished cigarette caused another fire in 2.1 ha pasture area owned by Boyuk Soyudlu municipality of Oghuz region at 14.30 on July 26. The fire spread to 0.9 ha area of the forest fund because of the windy weather. The fire was extinguished by the local bodies of the Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry and Oghuz fire-fighting unit of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the forest fund was not damaged seriously.

In connection with hot and windy weather Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry calls on people to be careful in the open air, not to throw unextinguished cigarettes, to obey fire safety rules and protect forests, which indeed are a national wealth.
