
The month of Ramadan will begin on Aug. 11, spokesperson for the Caucasus Muslims Board Rahima Dadashova said.
According to her, the Gazi Council of CMB will issue a fatwa on begining of the month of Ramadan. “The fatwa will cover recommendations concerning Ramadan,” she said. Dadashova added, that Ramadan holiday will be celebrated either on Sept. 9 or 10 depending on the sighting of the moon.
Ramadan -a month of obligatory daily fasting in Islam is the ninth month in the Islamic lunar calendar. It is the Islamic month of fasting, in which participating Muslims
refrain from eating, drinking, that is in excess or ill-natured; from
dawn until sunset. Special nightly prayers called, prayers are held. The entire Quran is recited in these prayers in Mosques all around the world. This month provides an opportunity for Muslims to get closer to Allah.
During Ramadan, Muslims ask forgiveness for past sins, pray for
guidance and help in refraining from everyday evils, and try to purify
themselves through self-restraint and good deeds. As compared to the
solar calendar, the dates of Ramadan vary, moving backwards about ten
days each year as it is a moving holiday depending on the moon.
