The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan has warned the citizens of the country about the recent situation in Pakistan.
The warning says: “Terrorist groups and clashes in the Pakistani army have intensified. Foreigners are often taken as hostage by terrorist groups in Pakistan. The citizens of Azerbaijan are advised to be careful while traveling to the following territories of Pakistan: South Waziristan, Swat, Bajaur, Khyber, Khurram and Orakzai administrative regions. Travels to Peshawar and regions in its south, Balujistan and Quetta remain dangerous. Travels through Buner and Dira Lowari are also considered dangerous.
North Waziristan as a region located on the border with Afghanistan has complicated geographical territory, high mountains and dense foreign strip. As a result of the large-scale operations carried out by Pakistani armed forces in the past 18 months in the administrative regions on the border with Afghanistan, including Swat, Bajaur, Kyber, Khurram and Orakzai, terrorist forces have assembled in North Waziristan. There is also a risk of being taken hostage in this territory. Taking this into consideration, Azerbaijanis traveling to Pakistan are advised to be careful.
Azerbaijani citizens residing in Pakistan permanently or temporarily are recommended to contact the embassy of Azerbaijan in Pakistan and to be registered at the consulate to get aid when they face problems. The addresses of all embassies and consulates of Azerbaijan Republic abroad have been posted on the website of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry. Azerbaijan`s Foreign Ministry is not responsible for the incidents that may happen during the travel of citizens. No region or country of the world has been insured against the risk of terror acts and emergency situations.”
