"Union of Turkic-speaking journalists to be established soon"

Soon the Press Council (PC) of Azerbaijan jointly with the Turkish Embassy in the country intends to establish a Union of Turkic-speaking journalists, PC chairman Aflatun Amashov said on August 4 at an event dedicated to the 135th anniversary of the national press in Azerbaijan.

Within the first plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-speaking countries in Baku in September 2009, was held a meeting of journalists accredited to the parliaments of these countries. The journalists came to the decision to establish the Association of Parliamentary Journalists of Turkic-speaking countries.

"We pay great attention to the press, but it must adhere to national interests, and be objective, avoid false information," Turkish ambassador to Azerbaijan Hulusi Kilic said to the event.

According to the ambassador, the press is actively developing in Azerbaijan. "Deficiencies in the press exist all over the world, but everything will be settled gradually," said Kilic.

During the event, the Turkish embassy presented awards to editors of a number of Azerbaijani media outlets, as well as deputy chairman of the New Azerbaijan Party (NAP), Ali Ahmedov, chairman of the National Broadcasting Council of Azerbaijan Nushiravan Maharramli, chairman of the Press Council Aflatun Amashov, chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group of the Azerbaijan-Turkey Nizami Jafarov in connection with the jubilee.
