Azerbaijani officers prevented diamond smuggling from Dubai

Azerbaijani customs officers prevented smuggling a large lot of diamond from Dubai, UAE to Azerbaijan, the State Customs Committee said. Azerbaijani citizen Rashad Mehraliyev was detained by the customs and national security officers at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport at his arrival from Dubai to Baku. 64.416 g (322.54 carat) of diamonds were found with him. The investigation department of the State Customs Committee launched criminal investigation under article 206.1 (smuggle).

Mehraliyev bought diamonds at the Dubai trade center and hided the packages with diamonds under his feet while passing through the customs control. The testimony, preliminary investigation, witness evidences and expert’s opinion proved the fact of smuggling of precious stones.
