Russia's Volgograd Court sentenced Azerbaijani to imprisonment in colony

19 August 2010 [11:08] - TODAY.AZ
The Volgograd Court sent an Azerbaijani offender to a colony of strict regime and refused to commute his sentence.
The crime occurred in December last year. 35-year-old resident of Azerbaijani nationality of Traktorozavodsk district, waited for his countryman in the entrance of the house and opened fire at him with a pistol. Two bullets hit the victim in the head. Only a timely appeal to the ambulance could save life of the wounded.

The assailant was arrested a few hours later as his actions were recorded by the security cameras. It turned out that the conflict between the two Azerbaijani families living on Spartanovka has a long history.

“The motive for the attack was revenge,” explains deputy head of Traktorozavodsk court Maksim Danilin. “Earlier, brother and father of this attacker had tried to assassinate the current victim.”

At that time, the victim could escape and the relatives of the detained men were jailed. He decided to attack him to avenge them. At trial, the defendant stated that he had no purpose to kill the victim, and only wanted to scare him, but the court sided with the prosecution. The defendant will spend 9 years in the colony. The verdict came into legal force yesterday.
