Azerbaijani emergency situations ministry sends aid plane to Pakistan

In addition to $1 million allocated for victims of the Pakistani floods, on August 21, 2010 Azerbaijan's Cabinet of Ministers - in accordance with instructions of President Ilham Aliyev - rendered another $1 million in a financial aid to the country.

On August 27, a consignment of Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry was sent to Pakistan. Worth AZN350,000 and weighing 40 tons, the aid plane carried food, clothing and other emergency supplies.

Another plane - of Azerbaijan's Ministry of Emergency Situations - carrying food, medical and other emergency supplies took off from the Heydar Aliyev International Airport on August 29. The consignment is worth AZN221,000.

Ragif Muradov, head of technical and financial provision department at the Ministry of Emergency Situations, told journalists the aid consignment was sent in accordance with instructions of President Ilham Aliyev.

“This consignment weights 43 tons and is worth AZN221,000. It mostly includes food and medical supplies, sleeping supplies, generators, beds and other emergency supplies.”

Muradov said Azerbaijan was “ready to continue helping Pakistan if the situation does not change for better”.

“If Pakistan applies to us, Azerbaijan's Emergency situations Ministry is ready to send its rescuers to the affected zones,” he added.
