Charities and Aid Foundation has issued a report on a "generosity index", compiled based on a survey in 153 countries. The index is based on amount of monetary assistance as well as time spent on providing various assistance to the needy, taking into account the relationship between charity with national income and wealth.

According to the report, during the reporting period 20% of the world population provided humanitarian assistance, 30% - cash assistance while 45% were engaged in charity. The report shows that wealthy and elderly people are more inclined to help others. In addition, women are more likely to provide cash assistance and men are more inclined to custody, except in Western Europe and North America.

Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland, Switzerland, USA, the Netherlands, UK, Sri Lanka, Austria, Japan, Laos, Sierra Leone are the top ten countries engaged in charity around the world. Eastern Europe accounts for the lowest level of charity.

Azerbaijan ranks 67 in the index of generosity taking the third place in Eastern Europe after Cyprus and Slovenia (for comparison, Armenia is 115th, Georgia – 134th and Russia – 138th). About 22% of aid is rendered in cash and 23% of aid in the form of charity in Azerbaijan. As to Central Asia, Turkmenistan takes 14th, Tajikistan 50th and Uzbekistan 59th spot in the index.
