Average daily rainfall has doubled its September norm in Baku, an official with the Azerbaijani Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry National Hydrometeorological Department, Umayra Tagiyeva, told Trend on Saturday.
"Heavy rains have been observed mainly in the Lankaran-Astara region, and in some areas of the Greater Caucasus. The rainfall was recorded at 48-64% over the monthly norm and exceeded the monthly rate by two times in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula," she said.
It has been raining heavily in Azerbaijan since early Saturday. According to Tagiyeva, the rainy weather will continue until Monday.
"The rain should stop in western parts on Sept.12. No rain will be observed on Sept.13," she said.
Traffic in Baku has been stalled due to the heavy rains, the Baku State Traffic Police Department told Trend.
