An ancient city supposedly dating back to XVIII century was unearthed during excavations in Agsu region of Azerbaijan.

Utensils, dishes and coins belonging to the German and Chinese culture were among many other exhibits displayed under name “Agsu miracles” at the Azerbaijan State History Museum on Tuesday. The excavations were conducted under the guidance of doctor of historical sciences Gafar Jabiyeb. Expedition has worked since March, the excavations covered an area of 600 square meters.
"Archaeologists from Japan, Korea, Germany, Spain and United States took part in excavations together with our local experts which is a positive factor and will make the findings on the territory of Azerbaijan known around the world," President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Mahmud Karimov said at the exhibition.
The findings show that Agsu was an important point at the intersection of trade routes between China, Iran and Europe, Karimov noted.
