
Azerbaijani Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfaz Garayev met Special envoy to the Secretary General on United Nations, vice-chair of the Reflection group on the long term future of the European Union, Latvian ex-president Ms. Vaira Vike-Freiberga. Garayev highlighted the ministry's activities.
He said Azerbaijan and Latvia enjoy high-level relations, which are developing in all fields, in particular culture.
The Minister said reciprocal visits “make great contribution” to boosting the bilateral ties.
Ms. Vike-Freiberga recalled her first visit to Baku, saying “she has eye-witnessed great development in the capital since then”.
She praised efforts by President Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva towards developing all spheres of the country's life. The ex-president expressed assurance her visit would contribute to deepening the cooperation between the two nations. Latvian ambassador to Azerbaijan Hardijs Baumanis was also present at the meeting.
