
Chairwoman of Azerbaijan's State Committee for Family, Women, and Children`s Affairs Hijran Huseynova met special envoy to the Secretary General of the United Nations, vice-chair of the Reflection group on the long term future of the European Union, Latvian ex-president Ms. Vaira Vike-Freiberga on September 15.
Huseynova briefed Ms. Vaira Vike-Freiberga on the workings of the committee. She also spoke of what had been done in Azerbaijan to settle problems of family, women and children. Huseynova underlined the importance of active participation of women in society. The chairwoman also said her committee cooperates with relevant state bodies and NGOs to solve the existing problems.
For her part, Ms. Vaira Vike-Freiberga praised the fact that the Azerbaijani women actively participate in the country's society. The sides also discussed issues on women problems, early marriage, gender equality and human trafficking. Latvian ambassador to Azerbaijan Hardis Baumanis was present in the meeting.
