
Chairman of Azerbaijan State Committee for Work with Diaspora Nazim Ibrahimov has met special envoy to the Secretary General of the United Nations, vice-chair of the Reflection group on the long term future of the European Union, Latvian ex-president Ms. Vaira Vike-Freiberga.
Ibrahimov briefed Ms. Vaira Vike-Freiberga on the activities of the Azerbaijani Diaspora organizations abroad. He also spoke of how to involve members of the Azerbaijani community in Latvia into the country`s society.
The chairman said “our compatriots living in Latvia must make vigorous efforts to increase the awareness of the country`s people about the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict”.
For her part, Ms. Vaira Vike-Freiberga praised the ongoing economic development process in Azerbaijan. On the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Ibrahimov said the problem must be settled peacefully and on the basis of Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity. The sides also discussed the current state of and prospects for Azerbaijan-EU cooperation, regional and global issues.
