
Expedition team of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography has unearthed a settlement dating back to the Stone Age and aging about 5 thousand years near the Tatarly village of Goranboy region.
The excavations have revealed graves and household items made of stone. Earthenware vessels were found near skeletons in the graves which is associated with the beliefs of the time, according to archaeologist Muzaffar Huseynov.
In addition, there are earrings and beads on the skeletons. Huseunov says these graves are unique to Azerbaijan. Goranboy Department of Culture and Tourism has undertaken protection of the new settlement. Exhibits found in the settlement have been placed in a new corner in the local museum. The team has also found vessels of the Bronze Age, clay figurines and bone awls. Archaeological work on the area of 4 hectares has been carried out for 2 years. The work will complete in the next 2 months.
