Lanes for special vehicles may appear on streets in Azerbaijan

30 September 2010 [12:53] - TODAY.AZ
In some countries, there are special lanes defined by signs or markings along roads meant only for ambulances, firefighting vehicles and others. Drivers of these vehicles may not comply with speed limits, moving much faster. In Azerbaijan, there are still no such special lanes.

Asked whether Azerbaijan plans to apply this practice, Azerbaijani Transport Ministry Spokesperson Namiq Hasanov said Azerbaijan also plans to define lanes for special vehicles on roads in future.

“Azerbaijan plans to apply this practice in future. This issue has been debated at the ministry. We are not against special lanes, but currently, we are busy with other matters,” Hasanov said.

“Actually, today we are dealing with more important tasks that must be addressed. The first task is to introduce intelligent transport systems, which will much improve the situation on the roads. The second task is to supply new taxis with a single color to Baku and country’s regions,” the spokesperson added.

“We will take up this issue as soon as we complete the work we are currently engaged in. Besides, it is impossible to allot a special lane in some streets in Baku. But these lanes will exist in streets where it is possible,” Hasanov noted.
