The next Plenipotentiary Conference of the International Telecommunication Union will take place in the city of Guadalajara, Mexico, from October 4 to 22.

The Azeri delegation led by Ali Abbasov, minister for communication and information technologies, will join the event. The Plenipotentiary Conference is the key event at which ITU Member States decide on the future role of the organization, thereby determining the organization's ability to influence and affect the development of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) worldwide.
The Plenipotentiary Conference is the top policy-making body of the ITU. Held every four years, the Conference sets the Union's general policies, adopts four-year strategic and financial plans and elects the senior management team of the organization, the members of Council and the members of the Radio Regulations Board.
ITU Sector Members, Regional Telecommunication and Intergovernmental Organizations, and the United Nations and its specialized agencies also attend the Conference as observers.
Azerbaijan put forward its candidacy to enroll in the International Telecommunication Union (from the Eastern Europe and Northern Asia region). The election to ITU Council will take place on October 11.
