07 October 2010 [12:17] - TODAY.AZ
“A total of 511 food poisoning cases have been registered in Azerbaijan for last 9 months,” Head of Nutrition Department at the Republican Hygiene and Epidemiology Center Imran Abdullayev said.

As many as 582 individuals have suffered from food poisoning during this period, he added.

“A total of 37 people suffered in 31 food poisoning cases in January, 35 individuals suffered in 27 cases in February, 56 individuals suffered in 42 cases in March, 39 people suffered in 34 cases in April, 48 individuals suffered in 46 cases in May, 60 individuals suffered in 55 cases in June, 119 individuals suffered in 110 cases in July, 120 individuals suffered in 107 cases in August and 68 individuals suffered in 59 cases in September,” Abdullayev noted.

No fatal food poisoning cases was registered during the report period.

"Baku residents account for most of the poisoning cases with only a small proportion accounting for country’s regions. The above cases of food poisoning occurred at home due to non-compliance with food storage rules, temperature violations in cooking and disregard of hygiene rules and regulations. I recommend our citizens to buy food in shops and supermarkets rather than buying them from individuals. Experience shows that many cases of poisoning are caused by foods that sold in inappropriate places,” the health official said.
