Azerbaijani State Service uncovers electricity cable labeling scam

Counterfeit labels were applied to electricity cables made in Azerbaijan, the State Service for Antimonopoly Policy and Consumer Protection under the Ministry of Economic Development revealed in the course of inspecting the plant where the cables were made.

According to the Ministry, a company located in Surakhani district of Baku produced products which were labeled and marketed on behalf of manufacturers including Russia's Moskabelmet, Turkey's Demirer Kablo, and V:KO.

During the inspection, the State Service revealed that labels indicating 100 meter-long cables were affixed to cables that were in fact only 82-85 meters in length.

In addition, 76,800 counterfeit labels for the brand names of Turkey's Siemens, Demirer Kablo, V:KO, and Nexans, as well as Russia's Moskabelmet, Sevkabel Holding and Saranskabel, were discovered at the plant.

The State Service seized 55,600 meters of counterfeit electricity cables, marked under the name of the Turkish and Russian manufacturers, 62,000 meters of electricity cables, marked in violation of regulatory requirements, and counterfeit labels used for labeling.

According to the report, the State Service is continuing the inspection.
