Festival of Azerbaijani cuisine underway in Mexico

The solemn opening ceremony has been held for the Festival of Azerbaijani and Turkish Cuisine, supported by the Azerbaijan Culture and Tourism Ministry and Communications and Information Technologies Ministry, in Mexico. The festival will last from October 7 to 17, Azerbaijani embassy in Mexico said.

During the festival visitors and residents of Mexico City will be able test the best dishes, drinks and sweets of Azerbaijan’s national cuisine in one of the most prestigious hotels "Nikko Mexico".

The chef from Baku Sanan Aliyev has been invited to the festival to demonstrate the subtleties of the Azerbaijani cuisine.

Ambassadors of Turkey and Azerbaijan to Mexico Ilgar Mukhtarov and Aleva Kilic made welcoming notes at the opening ceremony. Ambassador Mukhtarov noted that the Azerbaijani cuisine has its own distinctive national character and is known for a unique range of taste and flavor. “Azerbaijan's geographic location at the crossroads of ancient trade routes has enriched the country’s cuisine.”

Mexican Forign Ministry official responsible for European affairs Jose Ignacio Madrazo in his speech stressed that Azerbaijani embassy has organized a number of cultural events during short period of its presence in Mexico.

Following the welcoming speeches, the guests enjoyed performance of symphonic music of Azerbaijan. The musical ensemble performed works by well-known Azerbaijani composers Uzeir Hajibeyov, Gara Garayev, Fikrat Amirov and others. The concert program also included the national dance of Azerbaijan.

The festival program included documentary films about Azerbaijan, Bahlulzadeh (Azerbaijani artist) national photo exhibition and display of national costumes. It has also been agreed with the hotel management to offer Azerbaijani dishes to visitors on the restaurant’s menu for a year.
