According to Volgograd-based newspaper, two natives of Azerbaijan beat up Armenian man, and then doused the still alive victim with gasoline and set him on fire.
"33-year-old Armenian met with two Azerbaijanis randomly: the guys came and asked for a cigarette and then offered to drink beer together. A young Armenian guy agreed as he had no one to spend the evening with. They decided to relax on the bank of the Volga River, near the Rudnev pier. When the alcohol was over, they decided to leave. However, a fight broke out,” the newspaper says.
“Now both the culprits cannot remember what exactly caused the quarrel,” says investigator Mikhail Fomenko. “But the result of the brawl was tragic. Two 30-year-old men at first severely beat their random acquaintance, and then dragged his body a little further away, doused with gasoline and him set on fire.”
When passers-by found the half-burned body, the Armenian was still alive. He died at the burn center where he was taken by an ambulance.
Currently, the offenders have been arrested. They may get up to 12 years in jail. Meanwhile, representative of Volgograd prosecutor’s office Natalia Vladimirovna said the incident occurred back in July of this year.
"There was no conflict due to nationality. Azerbaijanis and Armenians met and decided to drink alcohol. But later on a conflict broke out. Armenian was beaten as a result. However, we do not confirm the information that Azerbaijanis doused the Armenian man with gasoline and set fire on him. It is possible that the ensuing spark lit up his clothes. It is be identified by investigators. We can not disclose names of defendants and the deceased prior to the court hearing,” she said.
