Baku hosts fourth meeting of working group on coast guard

Baku hosts the fourth meeting of the Working Group on the Coast Guard of the International Conference on Border Issues.

The meeting will last two days. Experts of border services from eight countries (Azerbaijan, U.S, Germany, Finland, Georgia, Netherlands, Russia, Turkey), as well as the EU border security agency FRONTEX attend the meeting, the State Border Service told Trend.

The working group's responsibilities are to ensure reliable protection of maritime borders, to study the legal base of border services, to strengthen border security in the sea, to exchange experience and information, to improve methods for inspection of ships to detect illegal migrants, drugs, contraband, weapons.

An effective system of education and training of the Coast Guard staff was discussed. A decision was made to continue discussions on border security in the sea, as well as to hold the next fifth meeting of the Working Group in Baku in October 2011. The participants visited the Academy of State Border Service and the Coast Guard base.
